# The Liberty Archive > The Mises.org library of Austrian economics, kept free: 970 books, 2,461 journal issues and 2,728 course recordings, open-sourced from 2009 to 2014. Rights are recorded per work. The archive holds 970 books, 2461 journal issues across 17 periodicals, and 2728 course lectures (1518 hours) across 161 series. Everything is free to read and download. ## Rights There is no single licence over this collection, and the content types do not rest on the same footing. Read all four of these before training on any of it. - **Books.** Rights were verified per work, by reading the work itself. 196 of 970 carry a named, versioned licence printed in the edition; the rest assert none. Treat a work with no stated licence as all rights reserved. The per-work table is [https://freecapitalists.org/licenses.json](https://freecapitalists.org/licenses.json): JSON, one row per book, with the determination, the evidence grade, the deed URL where there is one, and whether the full text is in the bulk dataset. It is the authority; this file summarises it. - **Course recordings and their transcripts.** No licence is asserted for any recording and none has been found: no published grant from the Ludwig von Mises Institute covering them has been located, and their rights have never been independently audited. The machine transcripts were released for AI training on 2026-08-07 by David Veksler, who operates this archive and open-sourced this library as Mises.org webmaster from 2004 to 2014. That is an authorisation from the archive operator, recorded as `owner-authorised-archive-operator`. It is not a licence grant, it is not evidence that a grant ever existed, and nothing here is Creative Commons or public domain on the strength of it. Detail: https://freecapitalists.org/about/#lecture-rights - **Journal issues.** Never checked title by title. No licence is claimed on any issue and none should be inferred from the books table. - **Author biographies and portraits.** Sourced separately from the works themselves and not covered by any of the above. ## Sections - [Books](https://freecapitalists.org/books/): 970 works by 324 authors. - [Journals](https://freecapitalists.org/journals/): 17 periodicals, 2461 issues. - [Courses](https://freecapitalists.org/courses/): 161 lecture series, 1518 hours. - [Authors](https://freecapitalists.org/authors/): 324 authors. - [Torrents](https://freecapitalists.org/torrents/): bulk download of the whole library. - [About](https://freecapitalists.org/about/): provenance and license. ## Page types - `https://freecapitalists.org/books//`: one book. Title, author, first publication year where known, description, and download links per format. - `https://freecapitalists.org/books//read/` and `/read//`: the book's complete text, one page per chapter, for the books whose licence permits it. Not every book has these. - `https://freecapitalists.org/authors//`: one author, their works, and a biography where one has been sourced. - `https://freecapitalists.org/courses//`: one lecture series, with every lecture listed. - `https://freecapitalists.org/courses///`: one recording, with an inline player, the speaker, the running time, the recording date where it was recovered (981 of 2728 lectures), MP3/MP4 downloads, and the full machine transcript where one publishes. - `https://freecapitalists.org/journals//`: one periodical, with its publisher and run. - `https://freecapitalists.org/journals///`: one journal issue. For most periodicals this is a single PDF; for the Journal of Libertarian Studies, the Quarterly Journal of Austrian Economics, the Review of Austrian Economics, and Left and Right -- which mirrored one PDF per article -- it is the issue's table of contents, with every article and front-matter PDF in it listed and linked (148 such issue pages, 1117 article PDFs across them). These records are filename-derived: volume, number, and date are recovered from the 2014 mirror's filenames, and no article titles, authors, or abstracts exist for any of them anywhere. - `https://freecapitalists.org/topics//`: one of 8 subject hubs (Austrian theory, money, the state, liberty, history, law, markets, war) listing every book and matching course tagged with it. Most link out to the companion wiki's concept article for that subject. ## Where the payload files are The PDFs, EPUBs, MP3s and MP4s are not on this host. They are served from https://library.freecapitalists.org/, and every book, journal and lecture page links its own; the download URLs are also printed in llms-full.txt. Covers and page HTML are on https://freecapitalists.org/. ## Companion wiki - [The Austrian Economics Wiki](https://wiki.freecapitalists.org/): 1,415 encyclopedia articles on Austrian economics, restored from the 2014 Mises Wiki. This archive holds the primary texts; the wiki explains the concepts, schools, and events, and carries biographies of the authors shelved here. ## Full text for machines This file is the index. The text itself is in the files below, generated by the same build that generates the pages, so they cannot drift from the site. - [llms-full.txt](https://freecapitalists.org/llms-full.txt) (7.8 MB): every book with its description, rights determination, download URLs and chapter list, each chapter carrying its own opening prose; every lecture with its facts and the opening of its machine transcript; every journal issue; every author with a biography. Excerpts, with the URL of the complete text on the adjacent line. - Same content, split, for fetching one part: - [llms/books.txt](https://freecapitalists.org/llms/books.txt) (4.2 MB) - [llms/courses.txt](https://freecapitalists.org/llms/courses.txt) (3.2 MB) - [llms/journals.txt](https://freecapitalists.org/llms/journals.txt) (373 KB) - [llms/authors.txt](https://freecapitalists.org/llms/authors.txt) (87 KB) - [licenses.json](https://freecapitalists.org/licenses.json): the per-book rights table, one row per book. Authoritative over any prose in these files. - [sitemap.xml](https://freecapitalists.org/sitemap.xml): a sitemap index over every page on this host, including the per-chapter reading pages that hold the complete book texts. The complete corpus is larger than any of these files: the reading pages hold the full text of the books whose licence permits it, and the lecture pages hold the complete transcripts. Both are in the sitemap. ## Bulk dataset The books and lecture splits above are also published as a packaged dataset with per-row provenance, ready for a training pipeline without a crawl: [https://huggingface.co/datasets/davidveksler/liberty-archive-austrian-economics](https://huggingface.co/datasets/davidveksler/liberty-archive-austrian-economics). One row per book chapter or per lecture, each carrying its own `license` object; see the dataset card for the exact rights basis per split. This is the same rights position as the `## Rights` section above, packaged rather than summarised.
