About the archive

The Liberty Archive is a static archive of the library that David Veksler assembled and open-sourced while serving as webmaster of Mises.org from 2004 to 2014. It holds 970 books, 2,461 journal PDFs across 17 periodicals, and 2,728 course recordings (1,518 hours).

Why it exists

These are classic works of economics and political thought. Many were hard to find online after the original library was reorganized. The goal here is simple: keep them free, keep them downloadable, and keep them easy to find.

The companion wiki

This archive holds the primary texts. Its sister site, The Austrian Economics Wiki, holds the reference layer: 1,415 encyclopedia articles restored from the 2014 Mises Wiki, covering the Austrian School and classical liberalism: the schools and their business cycle theory, the economic calculation debate, and biographies of the writers whose books are shelved here. Where a book or an author on this site has an article there, the page links to it.

License

Each book's rights are shown on that book's own page: a named Creative Commons licence where the edition itself states one, or a plain note that its status was not confirmed. 196 of 970 books currently carry a verified Creative Commons licence printed in the edition itself; the rest are marked accordingly rather than assumed.

Course recordings and their transcripts

The verified Creative Commons book chapters and the lecture transcripts are also published as a packaged dataset on HuggingFace, one row per chapter or lecture with its own rights basis, for anyone building on this corpus directly rather than crawling it.

Formats

• Books: PDF, EPUB, MOBI, and HTML where available.
• Journals: PDF.
• Courses: MP3 audio and MP4 video, streamable or downloadable. The videos the 2014 mirror held only as Windows Media have been converted, so every recording here plays in the browser.
