Believed to be in the public domain: this work was published in the 1932-1963 window when US copyright had to be renewed after 28 years, and no renewal was found in the Catalog of Copyright Entries. Not independently confirmed.

The state & socialism War & foreign policy

Murray N. Rothbard's classic essay on the subject of war from a Libertarian perspective. There is not a very good copy of it anywhere on the internet (except at Mises.org), so I pulled the text into a word processor, and reworked the fonts and footnotes. This pdf version is optimized for viewing on an iPad or other mobile reading device.

Is War, Peace, and the State in the public domain?
Believed so. US works published between 1932 and 1963 kept copyright past 28 years only if someone filed a renewal, and no renewal for this work was found in the Catalog of Copyright Entries. That is a search result rather than a legal opinion: a renewal filed under a shortened title or a different claimant would not have been found. Some copies carry a rights notice, which records the original claim and does not extend a term that lapsed.
Who wrote War, Peace, and the State?
Murray N. Rothbard (1926–1995) was an American economist, economic historian, and libertarian political philosopher, and perhaps Ludwig von Mises’s most important American student, attending Mises’s NYU seminar in the 1950s. He earned a B.A. This archive holds 95 of Rothbard's works.
